The Microsoft Lumia 950 is probably one of the worst kept secrets in the mobile phone industry this year, with leaked specs, images, and press renders found all over the internet. Now, we can say that leaks will come to a stop as the Software giant has just made its new high-end smartphone official.

Specs-wise, the Microsoft Lumia 950 sports a 5.2-inch AMOLED screen with a resolution of 1440 x 2560 pixels (Quad HD), which works out to a pixel density of 564 ppi. Its camera combo consists of a 20-megapixel PureView rear-facing camera with ZEISS optics, triple LED flash, 5th generation optical image stabilisation, and 4K video recording, and a 5-megapixel front-facing camera for snapping selfies and video chat. On board is 32 GB of internal storage. For additional storage options, it does come with a microSD card slot. Under the hood is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 64-bit 1.8 GHz hexa-core processor with an Adreno 418 GPU to handle graphics, coupled with 3 GB of RAM. Don’t worry about this processor causing overheating issues, as Microsoft has equipped this smartphone (as well as the Lumia 950 XL) with liquid cooling tech. Connectivity options include 4G LTE, a dual-band antenna, and a USB Type C connector. A 3,000 mAh battery is on board, which supports rapid charging and Qi wireless charging. Its dimensions are 82.1 x 145 x 73.2 mm, and is constructed out of plastic. Don’t worry about the handset looking and feeling tacky, as Microsoft has proven through past high-end devices that plastic can look and feel premium. It runs Windows 10 Mobile out of the box and is available in the following colour options: white and black.

Continuum is another feature that allows you to plug in the smartphone into a separate monitor and keyboard, allowing you to use the phone just like you would on a computer. Windows Hello beta is on board, which is a feature that uses the infra-red sensor to securely unlock the smartphone.

Price and release date

The Lumia 950 costs around £359 for the SIM free version. According to Microsoft, the device will be available in November.
